Licensing Representation
Licensing lets you monetize your idea without building an entire business around it. For many inventors and entrepreneurs, it’s the most efficient way to turn creativity into income.
Licensing your product idea can be a smart, strategic choice, especially if you want to grow without taking on heavy risk or overhead and going to market yourself. Here are the key reasons it’s often a great path:
1: Lower Financial Risk
You don’t have to invest large amounts of money in manufacturing, inventory, warehousing, or distribution. The licensee (the company) handles those costs.
2: Faster Path to Market
Established companies already have:
• Manufacturing capabilities
• Supplier relationships
• Distribution channels
• Sales teams
That means your idea can reach customers much faster than if you built everything yourself.
3: Leverage Established Brands
When a recognized brand brings your product to market, consumers are more likely to trust and buy it. You’re tapping into existing brand equity.
4: Scalable Income Through Royalties
Licensing allows you to earn ongoing royalties—typically a percentage of sales—without managing day-to-day operations. If the product scales, your income scales with it.
The process
The licensing effort involves me identifying anywhere from 8-10 companies that can be an appropriate fit for your product or products and then identifying the proper decision makers at those companies.
After that, I would utilize a sell sheet that either you provide or I would have created (extra cost to create) and email that to those appropriate people and attempt to capture their interest. I also utilize a Google sheet that lists the companies I will contact, the names of the people at those companies, and a notes column. This sheet will be shared with you and you will have full access to this sheet to monitor my efforts.
If any particular company is interested I will respond to that interest and negotiate any potential terms of a deal with them and before anything would be finalized I would advise you as to those terms. You would have to ultimately agree to the deal but it would be based on my strong recommendations as to what you should as deal points vary from company to company so those will be discussed with you as they occur but I negotiate all points of a deal on your behalf.
As you can appreciate, there are no assurances of any particular outcome.
I typically will call on companies for a period of six months because based on my experience it often takes a number of weeks for companies to react but if I’m in the middle of negotiating a deal with anybody those negotiations would continue until finality regardless of how long it takes.
Specific target markets or companies will be identified and agreed upon and that will be determined once we formally begin working.
You and I will talk on an as needed basis but typically we communicate via email. I would normally request a call with you if a company was very interested and I needed to go over any specific terms of a deal with you.
I have negotiated hundreds of licensing agreements for new products!
The fee for this effort is 2500.00. In addition, I would earn 10% of any royalties paid out to you for a period of 3 years. Many licensing agreements go beyond 3 years, but I only earn the 10% for the 3 years regardless of the licensing deal length.
